hey folks, been having a problem with my eve lately and i'm starting to suspect its my cedega at fault... i keep crashing while loading portraits. a gm told me to try as far back as 5.2.6, but i can't even get 5.2.6 or 5.2.7 to even log in. 5.2.8+ crash after loading sometimes even just one portrait. no errors or logs anywhere.
anywho, how is wine's support? is it any faster than cedega?
thanks --gordo |

Edited by: Gord Ackfordham on 20/06/2007 00:45:06 just tried now with wine 0.9.39 (gentoo ebuild) and cedega 5.2.10. big thumbs down on my system.
wine crashes while loading the station. ("entering station")

cedega doesn't load any cache settings (prefs.ini), and doesn't load the "choose character" screen.
is it working for anyone else? i can't upgrade to cedega 6, because i let my account expire. help! --gordo |

doesn't do anything for me... cedega still ignores prefs.ini/cache/settings.
i wasn't really planning on downgrading wine either. maybe i should just buy cedega again, or wait for wine to update again. --gordo |

Edited by: Gord Ackfordham on 20/06/2007 14:27:28 i take back my previous statement about /end /LUA:OFF not working. i was able to patch wine 0.9.39 with the provided patch, and run with the switches. now only if gentoo can add the patch to the ebuild.
edit:
there's a lot of sound errors though. like LOTS of them.

i just tried to run EVE under Wine 0.9.36 but it doesn't work. The Setup Programms runs without any problems, but when i start eve it shows the splash screen, but the window for login stays black. When i minimize the window i can seen the background picture for a moment, but then its black again.
I will try to compile 0.9.39 and see if it works better.
Starting eve with /end /LUA:OFF seems to make no difference for me.
Any ideas to get it working with 0.9.36 for me.
Important step -- you need the following Windows XP/SP2 font in ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/fonts
arialuni.ttf
If someone knows a work-around for this one, I'd be happy to hear.
Thx. I have managed to successfully patch and compile 0.9.39. The probleme seemed to remain until I included the fonttype. Lets see what works and what doesn't.
Does anybody know how to make the alsa driver to work with wine? My systems runs perfecly with it, but wine does not seem to like the driver.
set the combo box to emulation, and check the emulation box. that works for me. not sure if the sound rate combo box makes a difference.

Edited by: Gord Ackfordham on 01/07/2007 01:12:16 .40 works without patching in gentoo. i still get boatloads of sound and video errors, but it works... alsa and all.

Dunno, I've not heard anyone else complaining of random disconnects under Linux. Maybe a network driver issue or a dodgy ethernet chip.
you might want to run pingplotter on tranquility, you might have a bad route to the server... i couldn't play eve for like a month due to limelight being a pain.

anyone notice if their capacitor renders correctly? mine has been rather flaky lately.
it seems they fixed the bug where the sun's camera reflections show random screen text instead of the proper 'texture'...
now if only i could get more fps... hope they ask the community to test the supposed future linux client. --gordo |

Oh, and a sticky on the cliffs would be pwn.
kthxbye.
what's there to "cliff notes"? install wine 0.9.40, install eve, install the ms core fonts (and copy arial to the wine windows folder), and run with /end /LUA:OFF. --gordo |

Originally by: ChiangFa Ok, it seems I solved my problem, now EVE is running as good as in Windows... The only problem is that I can't set multisample quality in advanced graphic settings. I could set antialiasing from the "nvidia-settings" but it seems I have to do it every time I enter in Kubuntu.
can't you turn that on in xorg.conf?

The green text is cedega's monitoring which can be turned on/off via the cedega GUI.
thought so, thanks --- cheers, gordo |

Originally by: Merende Macaco I've upgraded to 0.9.44, it seems to be working somewhat reasonably, though I am seeing a lot of these: fixme:d3d_draw:drawPrimitive Using software emulation because not all material properties could be tracked which I'd been seeing in 0.9.42
And a few of these: fixme:d3d:IWineD3DQueryImpl_GetData >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION (0x502) from glGetQueryObjectuivARB(GL_QUERY_RESULT) @ query.c / 203 which I wasn't getting before.
Tried with sound on, but got a Dmixer error and a CTD fairly quickly.
Seemed to have a bit of instabilility other than this but was not wine, rather I'd been folding the last few days and the processor was running a bit on the hot side, after 1/2 hour of cooldown I went out and mined for 3 hours straight with no hiccups.
does this mean that .44 works without patching? maybe i should try emerging it. --- cheers, gordo |
